Final of the “CREATE 3D SCAN” competition

As part of the international project The BRIDGE under the Erasmus+ program, “Bridging the gap between university and industry: an innovative master’s degree program supporting the development of green jobs and digital skills in the Ukrainian construction sector”, and in support of the development of CREATE laboratories (Center for Research in Engineering, Additive Technologies, and Materials), the final round of a unique educational and practical event — the student competition “CREATE 3D SCAN” — was held on March 31, 2025, at USUST.

The main objective of the competition was to perform 3D scanning of objects using the Leica BLK360 3D scanner, process the point cloud, and create a Revit model.

The competition was sponsored by ORIGIN, a leading company represented by specialists Yulia Vashchenko and Tetyana Stetsenko, and by the official distributor of Leica Geosystems equipment in Ukraine — Navigation and Geodetic Center LLC, represented by its Director, PhD, Corresponding Member of the Engineering Academy of Ukraine Oleksandr Gorb, and his colleague Vitaliy Holovachov.

The contestants, organized into seven teams, selected their own mentors and spent a month scanning classrooms, historical sites, and building elements in need of restoration. Each team presented Revit models that impressed the jury.

Students of the Scientific Lyceum of Digital Technologies and Design of the IAPAPM were invited as special guests to the final round of the competition. Their presence demonstrated the growing interest of future students in modern digital technologies.

This is not the first instance of implementing BIM technologies at the USUST Educational and Research Institute of Professional and Advanced Construction Studies (ER IPACS). Thanks to the proactive work of the Department of Descriptive Geometry and Graphics, led by Artem Sopilniak, the guarantor of the educational program “BIM Technologies in Construction and Civil Engineering”, and with the support of partner organizations, the competitions “ROOM DESIGN 007 PSACEA” and “PSACEA BIM 2024” were successfully held in 2024.

The “CREATE 3D SCAN” competition may have come to an end — but in this challenge, everyone came out a winner!
