2nd session of the UKRENERGY intensive course for teacher retraining

From January 13 to February 7, 2025, lecturers from the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology (Institute of the Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture and Institute of the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology) participated in the 2nd session of the Intensive Training Course “Energy-Efficient Buildings”, conducted within the framework of the project “Innovative Master Courses Supporting the Improvement of the Energy and Carbon Footprint of the Ukrainian Building Stock” (acronym “UKRENERGY”).
The primary goal of training university lecturers in Ukraine is to improve the quality of teaching and learning by developing innovative master’s courses (MCs) on energy efficiency in buildings (EEB) in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process.
The retraining course “Energy-Efficient Buildings,” organized by the University of Genoa (UniGe) in Genoa, aims to enhance the harmonization of academic approaches and engage stakeholders in the development of new courses. It provides Ukrainian university lecturers with an opportunity to understand and implement new teaching methods in the educational process.
The meeting was attended by 24 representatives from all project participants: Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Ukraine; Odesa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Ukraine; Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Ukraine (beneficiary); Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukraine; National Transport University, Ukraine; Odesa National Economic University, Ukraine; Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology, Ukraine; Lviv National University of Environmental Sciences, Ukraine.
Participants from Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture (PSACEA): Yurchenko Y., PhD, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Structures, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Civil Engineering of Ukraine, Head of the Energy Innovation Hub of PSACEA; Koval O., Ph, Associate Professor of the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Structures; Liakhovetska-Tokarieva M., PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Heat and Gas Supply; Kosenko L., Postgraduate Student of the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Structures.
Participants from the Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology: Assoc. Prof. Department of Power Engineering Bielianovska O.A. and Assoc. Prof. of Department of Technologies of Natural and Synthetic Polymers, Fats and food products Sukha I.V.
The course included an academic session conducted by professors from the Universities of Genoa, Caserta, and Krakow.
Key Objectives of the Intensive Training Course “Energy-Efficient Buildings”:
– Development of new master’s courses on energy efficiency in buildings and energy conservation in response to labor market demands, with implementation in four universities in Ukraine.
– Enhancement of teaching staff qualifications in Ukrainian universities to align curricula with energy efficiency and building energy modernization challenges.
– Promotion and dissemination of knowledge on the European Green Deal and EU energy efficiency requirements for 2030.
Discussions in micro-groups focused on the academic aspects of UKRENERGY, particularly the harmonization of teaching approaches and curricula related to energy efficiency and sustainable building practices.
Impact of the Training
Participation in the training course will contribute to the active renewal of university curricula based on Ukrainian and European experience and provide a powerful boost to scientific activities.
At the end of the course, lecturers were divided into groups, each tasked with developing a project for an energy-efficient building, incorporating materials provided by the professors.
Upon successfully defending their projects, participants received certificates of completion.
A special thank you to our colleagues from the University of Genoa for the well-organized courses, new experiences, and positive emotions!
