Digital evolution at the institute of geodesy, cartography, and geoinformatics: a look back at the open lecture by leica geosystems ahead of the CREATE 3D SCAN competition

On March 31, 2026, a landmark event for future leaders in the architecture and construction industry took place at the USUST ESI PSACEA: an open lecture by experts from Leica Geosystems’ distributors in Ukraine. The event marked the final stage of preparation before the launch of the large-scale CREATE 3D SCAN competition.

Students and young researchers at the institute had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of high-precision technologies and learn the intricacies of working with equipment that currently sets global standards for 3D modeling and BIM technologies.

Speakers Vitaliy Golovachov from LLC Navigation Geodetic Center (Kharkiv) and representatives from LLC GEOTREND demonstrated the capabilities of modern laser scanners and shared tips on how to obtain the cleanest possible point cloud even under challenging conditions.

The Future of the Profession: Participants discussed the integration of scanning results into architectural projects and the process of restoring Ukraine’s infrastructure.

“We saw an incredible thirst for knowledge among the students at the Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning. Such meetings help bridge the gap between the classroom and working with premium-class equipment,” noted the lecture speakers.

Thanks to this lecture, the teams participating in the competition gained the necessary technical background to bring their ideas to life. Now comes the most exciting part: applying this knowledge in practice while creating their competition 3D models.

We thank our partners for their contribution to the development of education at our academy and wish all CREATE 3D SCAN participants the best of luck!

The event took place as part of the European project “The BRIDGE” under the Erasmus+ program, which aims to develop digital competencies and strengthen collaboration between the education sector and the construction industry, and as part of the operations of the VETPartEx Center under the Erasmus+ project “VETPartEx,” which aims to modernize vocational education and training (VET) in Ukraine’s construction sector.
